When you think of Memphis, what pops into your head first? Well, apart from Elvis, of course. This wonderful town is famous for its music, food, and friendly Southern vibe. It’s actually the newest big city in Tennessee, started in 1819, and had about 654,000 folks living there in 2013.

Sun Studio
Sun Studio has had many famous musicians walk through its doors. It’s tough to know where to begin with all the history here! It started in 1950 with the first rock and roll song ever, “Rocket 88” by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats. They call it “The Birthplace of Rock and Roll” because big stars like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash recorded here.
You can take a tour to see cool stuff like Elvis’ microphone from his first song in 1954. The guides are friendly and know a lot about the musicians who’ve been here.

National Civil Rights Museum – Lorraine Motel
This museum shows a lot about the struggle for civil rights over many years. It has films, stories, 260 things from history, and places where you can listen and learn. It talks about slavery, the Civil War, Jim Crow, and more, showing events that made history and inspired the future.
They have programs about Jim Crow, people sitting down to stand up, and important moments like when they walked together. You can even stand outside the Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King Jr. spent his last moments.
Graceland
Did you know Graceland got its name from a person named Grace in the original owner’s family, the Tools? Elvis bought this place in 1957 when he was only 22, after becoming famous the year before. He lived there for 20 years and had lots of friends and family visit.
Taking a tour here is like going through time. They give you an iPad with headphones, and it’s narrated by actor John Stamos.
Stax Museum of American Soul Music
This museum is special because it’s the only one in the world dedicated to American soul music. It honors the great artists who recorded here with over 2,000 rare things like artifacts, films, and cool exhibits. They even have Isaac Hayes’ shiny custom car with a TV, mini-fridge, gold trim, and furry carpet!
AutoZone Park
This is a great place for families. It got named the best Minor League Ballpark in 2009. It’s where the Memphis Redbirds play.They have a deck for parties, a fun area called The Boardwalk with games and a playground, and awesome fireworks at the end of the game.
Beale Street
Beale Street is like a mix of everything cool. You can find unique things, games for kids, rare music records, clothes, and lots about Memphis. It’s a super spot to spend time, walk around, visit riverside restaurants, and feel the friendly Southern vibe.
